What Is Udyam / MSME Registration?
Udyam Registration is the Government of India’s official recognition for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). It is run by the Ministry of MSME on the Udyam portal and replaced the old Udyog Aadhaar system on 1 July 2020. Once registered, you get a permanent Udyam Registration Number and a digital certificate. It is valid for life, with no renewal needed.
Is There a Government Fee?
No. Registration, the certificate and later updates are all free on the government portal. If someone quotes you a “government fee” for Udyam, that is not a real government charge. The only cost you may pay is a CA’s professional fee for doing the work for you.

Priority sector lending:
Banks must lend part of their portfolio to MSMEs, which often means faster processing.
Government tenders:
Many tenders waive the earnest money deposit for MSMEs, and Udyam is a standard requirement for registering as a seller on the Government e-Marketplace (GeM).
Subsidies:
Support for patent and trademark fees, ISO certification and some capital investments for eligible manufacturers.
Schemes:
PMEGP, Mudra loans, Stand-Up India and others use Udyam as an eligibility input.
MSME Registration Fees in Bhubaneswar
The government charges nothing, so MSME registration fees in Bhubaneswar are only the CA’s professional fee. It depends on:
Your business type and number of activities
Whether the NIC code and category need careful selection
Whether Aadhaar, PAN or other linking problems need fixing first
Whether you want advice on schemes and benefits too
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Choosing the wrong NIC code. It decides which schemes, such as manufacturing-only subsidies, you can use later.
Under-reporting turnover to stay in a lower category. The system checks it against your GST returns and can change your category.
Thinking Medium enterprises get the 45-day payment protection. They do not.
Filing more than one Udyam under the same PAN. Use multiple NIC codes in one registration instead.
Not keeping ITR and GST data correct. Your category updates from this data, so errors carry through.
